GOPHER WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS THIRD AT NCAA REGIONAL

As expected, the battle for the second spot for the national meet came down to Minnesota and Arizona State. The Gophers bettered the Sun Devils on just one apparatus, vault, where Minnesota outscored Arizona State, 48.650-48.500. The teams both scored 49.100 on the uneven bars, but Arizona State outscored Minnesota on both the balance beam (49.200-48.975) and floor exercise (49.150-49.075).
Junior MaryAnne Kelley paced the Gophers with fourth-place showings in the all around with a score of 39.125 and the floor exercise with a 9.90. Alabama's Jeana Rice won the all around with a 39.650, winning the floor with a 9.975 and placing in the top three in the other three events.
First-year Mary Skokut topped the Gophers on the bars, placing in a tie for fifth with a score of 9.90. Sophomore Jenny Alf and junior Megan Beuckens tied for sixth on the beam with scores of 9.850, while sophomore Leigh Dixon was the Gophers' leader on vault tying for ninth place with a score of 9.80.
