Hays was Minnesota's leading hitter in 2001, batting .331 and leading the team with 37 runs scored, 55 hits and 22 stolen bases. This is the first all-Big Ten honor for Hays, who was a second-team all-region selection last season. She is the first Gopher outfielder to earn first-team all-conference honors since Rachel Nelson in 1995 and 1996.
Marten set a Minnesota school record with 249 strikeouts this season. She finished with a 23-11 record and a 0.80 earned run average, the lowest for a Gopher in 10 years. Thul was Minnesota's third-leading hitter in Big Ten play with a .225 batting average in conference games. It is the first post-season award for both players.
Minnesota finished the season with a 36-22-1 record and a 7-13 record in Big Ten games. It is the sixth consecutive winning season for the Gopher softball program.
