BiermanSenior Aubrey Schmitt threw an automatic qualifying throw of 179-feet, 5-inches in the discus at the Minnesota Qualifier on Saturday, May 12 at Bierman Track and Field Stadium. The mark was the first automatic qualifying mark for the women's track and field team this season. The throw, a personal best for Schmitt, places her third on the school's top ten performers list. Schmitt, last week at the Minnesota Open, provisionally qualified in the event with a throw of 171-6. The graduate from Hastings also threw a provisional qualifying mark of 184-8 to take first in the hammer throw.
The 4x100 relay squad of seniors Amber Day, Shainnaine Osbourne, junior Jessica Shuster and sophomore Shani Marks set a season-best of 47.03 seconds to capture first in the event. Day also won the 100 and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.06 and 24.92, respectively. Shuster led a Minnesota filled 800-meter run to win the event in 2:09.96, and Marks won the 400-meter hurdles and long jump with marks of 62.45 seconds and 18-feet, 6.5-inches. Marks leap in the long jump is the team's season-best for the year.
Newcomer Alean Frawley won the shot put with a toss of 44-feet, 8.25-inches.
