waFor the fourth time this season, a Minnesota baseball player has earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors. Senior catcher/firstbaseman Josh Holthaus was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, and sophomore right-handed pitcher C.J. Woodrow earned Co-Big Ten Pitcher of the Week accolades for their performances versus Northwestern last weekend. Holthaus and Woodrow are the fourth and fifth Golden Gophers to earn such recognition this season - the most of any school in the conference.

Holthuas boosted the Golden Gophers to a 4-0 sweep of the Wildcats last weekend, as Minnesota made a late charge to defend its 2000 Big Ten regular season conference title. Holthaus batted .538 in the series (7-13) and produced six RBI and six runs, while improving a career-high hit streak to 12 games. Junior Jack Hannahan and senior Kurt Haring both earned the honor earlier this year.

Woodrow hurled his first shutout of the season, allowing only five hits and striking out seven Wildcats in seven innings of work. The 11-0 blank of Northwestern improved Woodrow's record to 6-4 on the year, and kept Minnesota's hopes of back-to-back Big Ten crowns alive.

The Golden Gophers completed the four-game sweep of the Wildcats, but wins by Ohio State and Purdue forced a third-place finish for Minnesota. The third-seeded Maroon and Gold get ready to take on the fourth-seeded Nittany Lions from Penn State in game one of the Big Ten Postseason Tournament Wednesday afternoon.
