GOPHERS TAKE THIRD AT BIG TEN, MARKS WINS TRIPLE JUMP

Shani Marks, a graduate from Apple Valley, Minn., was the only Big Ten champion for the women Gophers. Marks won the triple jump competition with a leap of 41-feet, 7-inches. The jump, a personal best for the sophomore, places her second on the school's top ten performers list. Marks also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 59.67 seconds.
Minnesota throwers continued to lead the team by placing in the discus and javelin. Aubrey Schmitt, who previously in the weekend placed in both the shot put and hammer throw, placed second in the discus with a throw of 174-feet, 8-inches. Brenda Meyer placed sixth in the event, tossing 161-11. Junior Linda Lindqvist threw a provisional qualifying throw of 159-feet, 9-inches in the javelin to place third.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Amber Day, Shannaine Osbourne, Jessica Shuster and Shani Marks set a school record with an eighth place time of 46.18 seconds. Shuster also finished third in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 9.34 seconds. Finishing fourth was the 4x400-meter relay team with a time of 3:43.20, the third best performance in school history.
Distance newcomer Darja Vasiljeva placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a personal-best time of 4:34.44. Distance runners Corinne Nimtz and Elaine Eggleston placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 5,000-meter run.
