SCHMITT, LINDQVIST HEADED TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Schmitt, a graduate from Hastings, Minn., will be participating in the shot put, hammer throw and discus. She is ranked seventh in the discus and 18th in the shot put and hammer throw going into the championships. Schmitt, a three-time All-American and five-time Big Ten champion, finished second in the discus and shot put and third in the hammer throw at the 2001 Outdoor Big Ten Track and Field Championships last weekend in Bloomington, Ind. Last year at the NCAA Championships, she was sixth in the shot put, 12th in the weight throw and 15th in the discus.
Lindqvist is ranked 12th in the nation in the javelin. In her first appearance of the season, Lindqvist, a graduate from Aland, Finland, finished third at the Big Ten Championships and qualified for the NCAA Championships. At the 1999 NCAA Championships, she finished third in the competition.
