SCHMITT FINISHES SIXTH IN DISCUS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Senior Aubrey Schmitt, a graduate from Hastings, Minn., finished sixth today in the discus with a throw of 174-feet, 8-inches at the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Schmitt earned three points for the Gophers in the first day of competition and will compete on Thursday in the shot put and Saturday in hammer throw. The event marks the first time a woman track and field athlete has compete in three events for Minnesota at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Schmitt finished 15th in the discus last year at the NCAA Championships.
