SCHMITT PLACES 11th IN SHOT PUT AT NCAA DAY TWO

putIn the second day of competition at the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., senior Aubrey Schmitt competed in the shot put, her second event of the competition, placing eleventh with a toss of 51-feet, 5.5-inches.

Schmitt, who on Wednesday placed sixth in the discus, will also compete on Saturday in the hammer throw. The graduate from Hastings, Minn. is competing in her fourth consecutive NCAA Outdoor Championships. Junior Linda Lindqvist will compete Friday night in the javelin for the Gophers.

Minnesota is currently tied for 20th, 13 points behind first place UCLA, after day two of the four day competition.
