FINDLAY, EGGLESTON SET BIERMAN RECORDS, NATIONALLY QUALIFY

indAt the Minnesota Open on Friday, May 4 at the Bierman Track and Field Stadium, the Gophers won 11 of 19 events, set two school records, set two stadium records and NCAA provisionally qualified two individuals.

Senior Elaine Eggleston won the first 3,000-meter steeplechase ever ran at Bierman Stadium. Eggelston finished with a school record and an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10:44.11.

Erika Findlay, a sophomore from Whitewater, Wisconsin, set a Bierman Stadium and Minnesota school record in the pole vault with a height of 12-feet, 6-inches. The NCAA provisional qualifying mark broke the previous Bierman record set by Jennifer Bass of South Dakota State in 1999.

In the discus, senior Aubrey Schmitt threw a season-best, NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 171-feet, 6-inches to take third in the event. In addition, Schmitt won the hammer throw in the meet with a throw of 177-10.

Newcomer Alean Frawley threw a winning toss of 48-2 _ in the shot put to take first in the meet, placing her ninth on the school's top ten performers list.

Junior Jessica Shuster won the 200 and 400-meter dashes with times of 25.42 and 55.16 seconds, respectively. Shuster's time in the 400 is a season-best.
