GOPHERS EDGE BADGERS TO END SOFTBALL SEASON

Wisconsin nearly tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two on and two out, Badger designated player Sheena Padovan reached on an error. Pinch-runner Heather Ostrowski tried to score on the play, but Minnesota's Hailee Nanchy picked up the ball around first base and fired home to record the game's final out.
Minnesota opened the game with a first-inning run. Tammi Hays walked and moved to second on Piper Marten's single through the left side. Hays moved to third base on a fly out by Angel Braden and scored on a sacrifice fly by Shelly Nichols. The Gophers increased the lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning. Amy Hafemeyer singled down the left-field line and was sacrificed to second by Hays. Marten reached on a Wisconsin error, scoring Hafemeyer. Wisconsin cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning on a run-scoring single by Padovan.
