NIMTZ, SCHMITT EARN VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN STATUS

Nimtz, a distance runner from Eden Prairie, Minn., has a maintained a GPA of 3.93 while majoring in business. She was a two-time winner of Minnesota's top five award and is a three-time NCAA competitor. Nimtz placed 16th in the indoor 5,000-meter run and 16th in the 10,000-meter run in 2000, as well as 16th in the 10,000 in 1999. She also earned Verizon Academic All-District honors last year in cross country.
Schmitt, a thrower from Hastings, Minn, was named for the second consecutive year to the Academic All-American team. A five-time Big Ten champion and a four-time All-American during her four years with the Gophers, Schmitt has maintained a 3.53 GPA while majoring in biology. She finished off a picture perfect career this season by becoming the first woman in Gopher history to compete in three events at the NCAA Championships, as well as being Minnesota's Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient.
