6/30/2001 12:00:00 AM | Football
asJunior running back Tellis Redmon and senior linebacker Greg White spent a portion of their summer as part of the emergency relief effort that responded to the people of Siren, Wisconsin, after an F-2 tornado partially destroyed the town. Redmon and White, along with members of their Counseling Procedures class, volunteered with the Chippewa Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross. After receiving basic Red Cross training, the class members did peer encouragement and support with tornado survivors who had lost homes, pets, and personal possessions. Sherri Turner, professor for Counseling and Student Personnel Psychology, headed the project.
Redmon and White will join the rest of their teammates back on campus in early August for the beginning of fall practice. The Golden Gophers kick off the 2001 season on Thursday, Aug. 30 in Toldeo.
