HACKLER TO COMPETE AT GOODWILL GAMES

University of Minnesota swimmer Jeff Hackler placed second in the 100- meter breaststroke at the United States National Championships in Fresno, California. His time of 1:02.90 qualified him for the Goodwill Games, which will be held in Brisbane, Australia Aug. 29-Sept. 3.
Hackler earned four All-America honors last season at the NCAA Championships. The Alpharetta, Ga. native placed seventh in the 100- yard breaststroke in 53.89 and sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke. He also swam on the All-American Golden Gopher 200 and 400 medley relay teams.
The Minnesota Aquatics team comprised of Hackler, Ben Bartell, Matt Taylor and Brandon Crook placed third in the 400-meter medley relay in 3:46.65 at the Championships.
Individually, Taylor placed 12th in the 100-meter butterfly (54.79), while fellow Golden Gopher Todd Smolinski finished sixth in the 100- meter backstroke in 56.98. Minnesota's Justin Mortimer had a strong showing placing sixth in the 400-meter freestyle (3:57.03) and eighth in the 1,500-meter freestyle (15:43.91).
