Roth managed to slip through two Xavier defenders, faked past the opponent goalie and punched the ball in the left side of the goal at the 85:47 mark.
The game was a back and forth battle between both inspired teams. There were 15 total fouls for the match. Both teams had a total of nine shots each. Freshman midfielder Tierney Palmer-Kline led the Gophers with three shots while junior forward Jordan Bieler tallied two shots. With only 20 minutes remaining, senior midfielder Alison Rackley left the game due to a leg injury.
The game was originally slated to begin at 7 p.m. at Xavier's Corcoran Field. However, the game was played at 8 p.m. in Wilder, Ky, at the Town Country Sports Complex due to a storm earlier Friday that left Corcoran Field in an unplayable condition.
The Gophers next game is Sunday, September 2, at Cincinnati at 12:30pm.
