The University of Minnesota women's soccer team improved its record to 2-3 on the season with a 1-0 shutout win over the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Gophers, who struggled to get scoring opportunities in the first period, finally got on the board late in the second half. Senior midfielder Alison Rackley scored her first goal of the season to put Minnesota up, 1-0. Minnesota had not scored a goal since Friday, Aug. 31, in its season opener against Xavier University.

Rackley had been missed from the Gopher lineup since suffering a mid- ankle injury during the season opener.

"Our one shot on goal really made the difference," said Minnesota coach Barbara Wickstrand. That one shot was all Minnesota needed to seal the victory at the 64-minute mark.

Minnesota retired the first half without taking any shots or corner kicks. The Buckeyes dominated the Gophers in shots, 21-1, and in corner kicks, 16-1.

The Golden Gophers will try to improve their record on Sunday when they continue their Big Ten road trip against the Nittany Lions of Penn State, at 1 p.m. Ohio State, now 3-3, will go on to play Kentucky on Sunday.
