308,The University of Minnesota women's golf team finished in seventh place at the Lady Northern Invitational, played at the Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana, Ill. The Golden Gophers tallied rounds of 308, 300 and 300 to compile a team score of 908. Michigan shot 9-over par as a team to score 873 and capture the team title by 14 strokes over runner-up Northwestern's 887.

The Gophers were paced by junior Karyn Stordahl (Owatonna, Minn./ Owatonna), who finished in a tie for sixth at 220 after rounds of 77, 71 and 72. Kent State's Martina Gillen shot a 3-under par 69 in the final round to capture medalist honors with an even-par tournament total of 216.

Gopher rookie Tai Kinney (Medford, Ore./North Medford) was impressive in her collegiate tournament debut, finishing in a tie for 25th place and placing second among the Minnesota golfers. Kinney shot 79 in the first round, then identical 74's in the second and third to total 227.

Other Gopher finishes were junior Kirstin Whalen (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) who tied for 32nd at 230 (77-76-77), senior Cindy Cannon (Big Lake, Minn./Monticello) in a tie for 44th at 234 (76-79-79), sophomore Karen Quintelier (Monrovia, Calif./La Salle) in a tie for 44th at 234 (78-78-77) and first-year Terra Petsinger (Arvilla, N.D./Larimore) in a tie for 64th at 244 (86-79-79).

Minnesota's next action in Oct. 1-2, when the Gophers travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the Lady Razorback Invitational.
