GOPHERS FINISH TWELFTH AT GRIAK INVITATIONAL

tea The defending 2000 Roy Griak Invitational champions, University of Minnesota women's cross country team, finished twelfth at this year's annual meet on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Les Bolstad Cross Country Course.

Sophomore Darja Vasiljeva (Jelgava, Latvia/Jelgava Secondary) finished 27th, Minnesota's highest finish, in 21 minutes and 39 seconds. Finishing second for the Gophers was frosh Lisa Dyer (Moorhead, Minn./ Moorhead), in 21:59, taking 44th place.

Arizona State, ranked 11th, scored 109 points to take the team title, followed by Providence College with 139.

Individually, Washington senior Sabrina Monro outran Arizona State senior Lisa Aguilera by 22 seconds, winning a in a time of 20:12.

No. 19 Minnesota will now travel to Eau Claire, Wis. for the UW-Eau Claire Invitational next Friday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m.
