GOPHER SOCCER DROPS 1-0 MATCH TO IOWA

The University of Minnesota women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 heartbreaking loss to Iowa (4-5-0, 2-1-0), when the Hawkeyes scored the game winning goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation on Sunday. The Gophers fall to 3-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in Big Ten play.
Iowa's gamewinner was scored at the 86 minute, 36 second-mark by frosh midfielder Katie Clymer. Michelle Mobily flicked the ball into the box where Lindsey May headed it toward the goal. Minnesota goalie Julie Eibensteiner (North Oaks, Minn./Totino-Grace) reacted to the header just as Clymer knocked in the winning shot.
Minnesota had many scoring opportunities throughout the match, out shooting the Hawkeyes by a 19-11 margin. Ten of Minnesota's 19 shots were on goal. Sophomore forward Rachael Roth (Wayzata Minn./Wayzata) led the Gophers in shots taken, with seven, four on goal.
Britta Vogele collected ten saves in net for the Hawkeyes, while Eibensteiner was credited with four saves.
Minnesota will continue its five-game homestand on Friday, Oct. 5, hosting Indiana (5-2-1, 2-1-1), at 7 p.m.
