The second period belonged to Wisconsin as Alex Leavitt and Andy Wheeler scored to make the score 4-1. Wheeler's goal came shorthanded. Johnny Pohl tried to bring Minnesota back as he scored on the rebound on the power-play. But the Badgers would push the lead to three again as Wheeler scored again with just over a minute to go.
In the third period, Travis Weber replaced Hauser in net. Hauser left with 18 saves on 23 shots. Weber would finish with one save on four shots as the Badgers kept up the pressure with three more goals. Jeff Taffe had the goal for the Golden Gophers.
