GOLDEN GOPHER MEN'S GYMNASTICS DEFEATED BY MICHIGAN

Top finishers for Minnesota included senior Bob Goss, tying for first place on the vault with a score of 9.100, and junior Clay Strother, tying for first on parallel bars with a 9.000. Strother also tied with freshman teammate Guillermo Alvarez for second place on the pommel horse with a 8.650. Alvarez placed second in the all-around competition with a 50.700, only 0.800 behind Michigan's Chris Gatti who finished first.
Minnesota's record is now 0-1 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines outscored the Golden Gophers in all events but the pommel horse, where Minnesota finished ahead 34.350 to 33.800.
Minnesota still holds a slim all-time advantage over Michigan in dual meets, leading 27-25.
The Golden Gophers' next meet is Sat., Jan. 26 against the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill. They will return home the following weekend, Sat. Feb. 2, to face the University of Iowa.
