Rob Merritt, a freshman from Hopkins, Minnesota, set the freshmen indoor school record in the 200-meter dash, winning the event in 21.88 seconds. Chris Darkins held the previous mark at 22.09 seconds set in 1993. Merritt also looked impressive running the anchor leg on one of Minnesota's three 4x400 meter relay teams, turning in a 48.4 split.

The team of senior Bob Quade, sophomore Adam Steele, sophomore Mitch Potter and junior Andy Wohlin won the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:13.42, nearly breaking the field house record of 3:13.34 set in 2000.

In the mile run, Minnesota claimed three of the top four spots. Sophomore Neil Hanson showed an impressive kick in winning with a time of 4:13.41, freshman Ryan Ford took second (4:15.28) and sophomore Andrew Carlson placed fourth (4:17.71).

Sophomore Lynden Reder, for the second consecutive week, won the weight throw with a distance of 56-0 3/4.

The Golden Gophers are next in action on Saturday, January 26 as they continue their preparation for the Big Ten Indoor Championships at the Gold Country Classic in the University Field House.
