A MINI 2024-25 GOPHER INDOOR TRACK RECAP
In the first year of the expanded Big Ten the University of Minnesota track and field team claimed one individual indoor conference title and finished eighth as a team at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Winning her second straight Big Ten weight throw title was Anthonett Nabwe, who also added her second All-America finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships while teammate Hadley Streit earned her first All-America finish in the same event. Nabwe's title-claiming weight throw of 24.22m (79-5 1/2) is the 21st best throw in collegiate history, according to USTFCCCA, and slots her at the No. 2 spot in Minnesota history only behind 2018 NCAA Champion Kaitlyn Long (24.37m | 79-11 1/2).
WHO'S BACK?
After Nabwe and Streit, the Maroon and Gold welcome an additional four women's scorers from the team's Big Ten Indoor Championships roster from a season ago. Isabelle Schmitz scored in both the DMR (3rd, 11:02.42) and the 3000m (7th, 9:14.13) as a true freshman and returns after an outstanding cross country campaign in the Fall. Zoie Dundon, a 2024 3000m Steeplechase All-American, was also a part of Minnesota's bronze medal-winning DMR team in 2024. Kennedy Martinson was a scorer for Minnesota in the Pentathlon at the Big Ten Championships in 2024 finishing sixth with 3,995 points, which was the fifth-best point total in school history and the best point total by a Gopher since Allison Gerads in 2021 (4,088 points). Lastly, Kitania Headley scored as a true freshman a season ago as a member of Minnesota's 4x400m relay team that was eighth at the Big Ten Championships (3:39.18).
UP NEXT
Minnesota's schedule will not resume until January 10, at the Minnesota Open. The Maroon and Gold have their first road trip of the indoor season on January 16-17, at the Graduate Classic in Lincoln, Neb.
