The redshirt junior is just one off the Big Ten's career record for weekly honors.

MINNEAPOLIS -- For the fifth time this season redshirt junior Anthonett Nabwe has earned the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor, the conference office announced on Wednesday. The recognition is the 11th of the Nabwe's career and comes after she nearly broke the NCAAs all-time collegiate hammer throw record at the 116th Drake Relays.

This season Nabwe is undefeated against collegiate competition and is ranked No. 1 in the hammer throw while also slotted at No. 5 nationally in the discus and No. 22 in the shot put. At the 116th Drake Relays last weekend Nabwe's 77.64m (254-9) on her second attempt of the hammer throw competition catapulted the Liberian thrower to No. 2 all-time in NCAA history only behind Camryn Rogers' throw back in 2022. Last week Nabwe set a facility record at the Gary Wilson Invitational before going down to compete in the professional section of the 116th Drake Relays. Nabwe's throw makes her, as of April 27, the 12th-best performer in the women's hammer throw in world history (all levels), per the IAAF

Additionally Nabwe, a 'The Bowerman' Watch List member, broke her own African and Big Ten records with her throw at the 2026 Drake Relays. In her career, Nabwe has won 11 different Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors between the indoor and outdoor seasons. She owns the program record for most weekly conference honors in a career at Minnesota, recently breaking a tie with two-time Big Ten champion Shelby Frank. In conference history, Nabwe is tied for second with those 11 all-time weekly honors with the all-time women's record held by Cindy Ofili of Michigan with 12. Between indoor and outdoor this season the Maroon and Gold have won six weekly honors with Nabwe claiming the distinction five times while Zeal Kuku was named the Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week earlier this year indoors.

This week Minnesota will have entries in three different meets including the St. Thomas Invitational (April 29), Hamline Invitational (May 1) and the Spec Towns & Torrin Lawrence Invitational (May 2). Nabwe is expected to compete in the shot put and discus in Athens, Ga., at the Spec Towns & Torrin Lawrence Invitational.
