SUNDAY'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GAME MOVED TO WILLIAMS ARENA

TThe University of Minnesota women's basketball game versus Indiana on Sunday has been moved to Williams Arena from the Sports Pavilion due to a burst water pipe that flooded the arena last Saturday. The tip-off time for Sunday's game remains at 2 p.m.

The "Pack the Pav" promotion has been renamed to "Ride the Wave to Williams." The No. 23 Golden Gophers hope to break the all-time Minnesota women's basketball attendance mark of 6,746 set in January 1993 in a game versus Indiana in Williams Arena. The Gophers have played in the Sports Pavilion since the 1993-94 season.

Tickets are available for Sunday's contest at the Gopher ticket office at Mariucci Arena or by calling 612-624-8080 or 1-800-U-GOPHER. Advance ticket purchase and pickup is recommended.

A 3-inch sprinkler main pipe located at the west end of the Pavilion burst on Saturday. Crew were able to remove the standing water and hold a women's gymnastics meet in the arena on Saturday evening but the damage to the basketball court has yet to be determined.

"We're assessing the damage and by Friday or early next week we will know if we are moving to Williams Arena for one week or six weeks," said Facilities Director Scott Ellison.

"We hate to lose our home-court advantage," said Women's Athletics Director Chris Voelz. "We do, however, look forward to setting a new Minnesota women's basketball attendance record this Sunday."

The Sports Pavilion is also home to Gopher women's and men's gymnastics meets and several wrestling matches. Any change in location for these events will be announced after the damage assessment of the floor was been determined.
