Gopher Rowers Finish Strong at the Head of the Rock

varThe University of Minnesota rowing team competed in the Head of the Rock regatta in Rockford, Illinois today. The course was approximately 2.75 miles long, with nine Gopher boats participating. In varsity racing, Minnesota claimed second in the Open 4, fourth in the Open 8+, and third place in the singles event. The novice team placed second in the Open 8+ race.

Placing second in the Open Varsity 4+ race with a time of 17:32.6 were coxswain Catie Hill, Jackie Gagner, Melissa Roche</ a>, Heidi Rose and Jill Peters.

Coming in at 16:00.9 in the fourth-place Varsity 8+ boat were coxswain Katie Nelson, Kirsten Kosloske, Jessi Johnson< /a></ a>, Katie Thurstin, Jackie Gagner, Jill Peters, Heidi Rose, Melissa Roche and Beth Hornby.

Beth Hornby raced in the singles event and finished in 19:55, behind Wisconsin and Camp Randall.

In the novice boat were coxswain Kristi Branigan, Natalie Olvera, Sarah Reed, Janette Gustafson, Casey Christensen, Jillian Casey, Therese Hrncirik, Jenna Buskohl and Colleen Brown, finishing in 17:16.7.

Minnesota's next competition will be Oct. 20 at Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass.
