Gopher Women's Hockey Earns a Sweep Over Ohio State

agThe second-ranked University of Minnesota women's hockey team earned a series sweep over the Ohio State Buckeyes with a 2-1 win, Saturday night at the OSU Ice Arena. Minnesota won the previous game against OSU by a score of 4-0. The Gophers move to 6-0-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the league play. Minnesota is off to its best start in the program's history with the perfect mark.

After 38 scoreless minutes of play, Minnesota scored two goals within 1:31 of each other in the second period. The first goal was scored by Kri sty Oonincx at 18:01. Oonincx received a pass from Kri ssy Wendell and top shelved the goal in the upper-right corner past Buckeye goalie April Stojak. The Gophers added the second goal of the night when Wendell notched a goal of her own. Wendell fake left, but put the puck in the net to the right side at 19:32. The assists went to Che lsey Brodt and Nat alie Darwitz.

OSU tacked on a goal of its own at 4:24 of the third from Shana Frost, but the Gophers withheld with a one-goal lead.

Minnesota was 0-7 on the power-play, while Ohio State was 1-6.

The Gophers host the Wisconsin Badgers at Ridder Arena, Nov. 1-2. The two teams face off at 6:05 p.m. on Friday and 4:05 p.m. on Saturday.
