Darja Vasiljeva Wins Cross Country Title at Iowa State Invite

"We really dominated this meet," said Minnesota head coach Gary Wilson. "But, more importantly we are beginning to gel as a team and get prepared for the championship portion of our season."
Vasiljeva edged freshman teammate Carly Emil, who finished second in 14:14.04. Another Gopher rookie, Jen Hess, placed fourth in 14:26.78. Other Gophers placing in the top 10 were junior Laura Bjork, who placed sixth at 14:42.48; sophomore Paula Hoffert, who placed ninth at 14:49.54; and sophomore Kim Magee, who placed 10th in 14:50.09.
Minnesota's next competition is Saturday, Oct. 19, when the Gophers travel to Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in the Pre-National Meet. The meet provides top-caliber teams the opportunity to compete on the course that will host the NCAA Championships on Nov. 25.
