Minnesota Wrestlers Compete at Kaufman-Brand Open

Cole Konrad captured Minnesota's lone title, going 4-0 in the country's largest open collegiate tournament.

Konrad, a native of New London, Wis., defeated Ryan Fuller of Iowa, 2-1, in sudden victory overtime in the championship bout. Konrad tallled one fall en route to the crown. Quincy Osborn became the first Golden Gopher to place in the event, taking third at 133 pounds. A Grand Rapids, Minn. native, Osborn went 5-1 with two pins, downing Chad Willard of Neosho CC, 3-1, in the third-place match.

At 141 pounds, Danny Williams took second place with a 4-1 record. An Indianapolis native, Williams lost to Bryan Miller of Colby CC, 11-6, in the title bout.

Four other Minnesota freshmen competed in the 20 & Under Division, but did not place. They were Willy Holst (133), Juan Martinez (149), Thomas McAlpine (149) and Mike Schmidt (184).

Four Golden Gophers participated in the Open Division of the Kaufman- Brand Open, but also did not place. They were Trent Hatlevig (141), Matt Nagel (165), Nate Baker (165) and Jacob Lininger.
