Hackler Earns Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Honor

The Big Ten has announced that Golden Gopher swimmer Jeff Hackler has been named the Co-Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for his performance over the past weekend at the Minnesota Invitational.

Hackler, an 11-time All-American, led the Gophers to a first-place finish at the Minnesota Invite. The senior finished first in all four events, in which he participated, including the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, where he finished in times of 55.71 and 2:02.03 respectively. Hackler was also the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay that captured first with a time of 1:29.23. He was the second leg of the 400 medley, which clocked a time of 3:16.70, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships.

Hackler and the rest of the defending Big Ten Champions take the week off to prepare for the U.S. Open, Dec. 5-7. The Gophers will start the preliminaries at 9 a.m. each day and conclude with the finals at 6 p.m. It is the last home event of the calendar year for the eighth-ranked men's swimming and diving team.
