Darwitz Named WCHA Rookie of the Week

recogniti For the fourth consecutive week, a member of the Gopher women's hockey team has received weekly conference recognition. The Western Collegiate Hockey Association has announced that Gopher forward Natalie Darwitz has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week for her performance against the University of Wisconsin. It is the second rookie of the week award for Darwitz this season.

Darwitz notched three points on the weekend, two of which came in the 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon. Darwitz gave the Gophers an early lead Saturday, scoring at 2:49 of the first period. She later had an assist in the game-winning, power-play tally to help the Gophers to their eighth win of the season.

Darwitz and teammate Krissy Wendell lead the team with 19 points. She ranks third in conference scoring, notching 12 points in league action.

The Gophers (8-0-0, 6-0-0 WCHA) will be without Darwitz, Wendell, Winny Brodt, or Kelly Stephens for the weekend series against Bemidji State. The four will play at the Four Nations Cup in Kitchner, Ont. Nov. 6-10.
