foUniversity of Minnesota women's swimming head coach Jean Freeman announced that Heather Harris and Krista Kezbers have signed a National Letters of Intent and will join the Gopher women's swim team for the 2003-04 season.

Harris, a Fargo, N.D. native, is an eight-time North Dakota state champion as a member of Fargo South High School. As a senior, Harris gained her fifth 200-yard freestyle championship and her third 500-yard championship. Harris was the state record holder in her freshman and junior seasons in both the 200 and 500 free. As a seventh grader, Harris was an all-state and all-conference selection. She was a two- time high point winner at the Central Zone championships and was a Junior National qualifier in the 100 and 200 free. Harris holds the high school records in the 100, 200 and 500 free as well as the 100 back, 100 fly and the 200 individual medley. Harris was named the 2002 Eastern District Conference Athlete of the Year.

Kezbers, from Oklahoma City, Okla., won the state championship in the 50-yard freestyle as a member of the Putnam City North High School. She was named the Putnam City North mvp as a sophomore in 2001. In her junior season, Kezbers was the Oklahoma state runner-up in the 50 and 100 free. She is a four-time conference champion in the 50 and 100 free and a state runner-up in 2001. Kezbers has gained all-state honors in back-to-back years in 2001 and 2002. She is also a two-time conference champion in track's high jump and a state qualifier in her sophomore and junior seasons.

"Signing three freestylers will help put our free relays back on top at conference and the NCAA's," coach Freeman said. "Combine these two with Val Tukey (an earlier signee) and we can become very solid in our freestyle events. We are very happy with our early signees."
