Men's Basketball Falls to Nebraska 80-60

The University of Minnesota men's basketball team lost 80-60 today to Nebraska at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb. The Cornhuskers got off to a 16-0 start and never fell below a 13-point lead the entire game. The Gophers shot just 31 percent from the field, 21.4 from three-point range and had 16 turnovers.
Nebraska nailed two three-pointers in the first two minutes of play and continued a 16-0 run until Michael Bauer made a jumper at 14:02 to end the run and get Minnesota on the board. Minnesota was unable to harness Nebraska, however, finishing the half down by 15 despite a 9-2 run that brought them within 13 points at the 1:35 mark.
In the first half, Bauer held strong offensively for Minnesota bringing in nine points, yet the Gophers only shot 32 percent from the field. Nebraska nailed four of nine three's in the first half and finished with a field-goal percentage of 43.
The second half was more of the same for the Gophers. Nebraska started it off with a 14-4 run and continued to play strong offensively, leading by as many as 30 twice in the second half. With a three-pointer from Maurice Hargrow, Minnesota was able to cap an 8-3 run at the 4:07 mark, bringing the score within 17. However, Nebraska answered back, outscoring Minnesota 7-3 in the final four minutes and grabbing the 80-60 victory.
Hargrow led the way for Minnesota with 15 points and five boards while Bauer had 14 points and seven rebounds. Jerry Holman added 13 points, six rebounds and four blocks. Sophomore Rick Rickert only played 17 minutes due to illness. The leading scorer for Nebraska was Andrew Drevo with 27 points, 10 of which came in the first six minutes of play and 14 rebounds. Nate Johnson added 14 points.
