Weber Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week

n Sophomore goaltender Travis Weber has been named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Minnesota's two-game sweep of Wisconsin this past weekend.

Weber stopped 46 of 48 shots in the two games. In a 3-0 win on Friday, he recorded his first career shutout with 31 saves. Weber helped hold Wisconsin scoreless on all four of its power-play opportunities. He stopped all 13 shots he faced in the third period. In the 3-2 win on Saturday, he stopped 15 of 17 shots.

Weber currently leads the WCHA with a 1.98 goals-against-average in league games. He ranks fourth with a .917 save percentage. Overall, he ranks third in the conference with a 2.24 gaa and fourth with a .908 save percentage.

Weber has made seven consecutive starts for the Golden Gophers and in that span, has a 4-1-2 record with a 1.96 gaa and .927 save percentage.

Minnesota is back in action tonight with an exhibition game vs. Team Italy at 7 p.m. at Mariucci Arena. The Golden Gophers resume play on Dec. 27 with the Dodge Holiday Classic.
