2/20/2002 12:00:00 AM | Athletics
This 30-minute special presentation comprehensively breaks down men's and women's basketball, men's and women's hockey and wrestling as all five squads look to continue their impressive regular season performances in their respective championship tournaments.
MARCHING TOWARD MARCH has one segment that takes a look at the surprising seasons of the men's and women's basketball teams. Dan Monson has his men's team poised for an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time in three seasons. Head coach Brenda Oldfield has rallied her women's squad to a national Associated Press top-20 ranking for the first time in two decades and has her team positioned for a top-four region seed in next month's NCAA tournament.
A second segment heads to the ice to recap the Golden Gophers men's and women's hockey successful 2001-02 campaigns and looks ahead to the postseason. Don Lucia's men's team, which has been nationally ranked in the top five all season, has the talent to advance to the NCAA Frozen Four, which is to be played at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Golden Gophers women's squad looks to repeat as WCHA Champions and earn a spot in this year's NCAA Women's Frozen Four.
Finally, MARCHING TOWARD MARCH focuses on the NCAA defending-champion Golden Gophers wrestling team. Currently the Golden Gophers are working on an undefeated season and expect to do nothing less than repeat as champs in Albany, N.Y. in March.
FSN rinkside reporter and host of Minnesota Wild and Golden Gophers hockey pregame shows Clay Matvick hosts MARCHING TOWARD MARCH. Dan Truebenbach serves as producer for the show.
