Golden Gophers Defeat Badgers 6-3

1Minnesota used four second period goals to defeat Wisconsin 6-3 this evening at Mariucci Arena. Minnesota improved to 15-7-3 in the WCHA and 23-7-4 overall. Wisconsin fell to 10-12-3 in the WCHA and 12-17-4 overall. Adam Hauser earned his 74th career win, breaking a tie with Robb Stauber for the all-time career record at Minnesota.

Jeff Taffe opened the scoring for Minnesota at the 17:24 mark of the first period on a pass from Johnny Pohl. Minnesota held the lead until the 1:48 mark of the second period when Andy Wheeler knotted the game for Wisconsin. The Golden Gophers proceeded to score four straight goals in the second period. Pohl and Taffe scored at 7:14 and 9:55 of the period before Dan Welch and Matt DeMarchi scored just 20 seconds apart at the 12:12 and 12:32 marks.

Rob Vega closed the Minnesota lead to 5-2 but Nick Anthony added the clincher just 27 seconds into the third period, taking a 6-2 lead.

Hauser stopped 26 of 29 shots for his 14th win of the season. Scott Kabotoff made 40 saves in the loss. Taffe finished the game with two goals and an assist while Pohl and Anthony had a goal and two assists. Welch added a goal and an assist and Troy Riddle added two helpers. Riddle has nine points in his last three games. Pohl notched his sixth straight multi-point game.

Sophomore defenseman Joey Martin suffered a head injury in the third period and was lost for the game.

Minnesota and Wisconsin face-off again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Mariucci Arena.
