The No. 1 University of Minnesota women's hockey team is the Western Collegiate Hockey Association-Women's League Regular Season Championship for the second consecutive season.

The Golden Gophers clinched the title when Minnesota-Duluth was defeated by St. Cloud State Sunday. As the regular season champion, the Gophers have earned the No. 1 seed in the WCHA-Women's League Final Five, which takes place in Blaine, Minn., at Fogerty Arena, March 7-9. UMD, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Bemidji State make up the tournament field, and this week's action will determine the second through fifth seeds.

"It's great to win another regular season title, which was one of our team goals this year," Gopher head coach Laura Halldorson said. "However, there's still more work to be done and we don't want to get complacent."

The Gophers play a home-and-home series against St. Cloud State this weekend. Minnesota hosts the Huskies Friday, March 1 at Mariucci Arena for a 7:05 p.m. start, while Saturday SCSU hosts Minnesota at 8:05 p.m. The second game will be played at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
