Women's Hockey Downs St. Cloud State, 4-1

18-2-The University of Minnesota women's hockey team downed St. Cloud State University, 4-1, on Friday night at Mariucci Arena in front of 1,327 fans. The No. 1 Gophers improve to 25-3-5 overall and 18-2-3 in the WCHA.

Kelly Stephens put the Gophers ahead at 14:46 of the first period, scoring her 19th goal of the season with assists from La Toya Clarke and Kristy Oonincx. With the goal, Stephens sits at 36 points, ranking her first on the team in goals and second in scoring.

Ronda Curtin had the game winning goal for Minnesota by 8:03 of the second period. Curtin picked up the loose puck off a Jody Horak save and skated it in for the game-winner. The Huskies came back in the second stanza with a goal by senior Katy Battis, slicing Minnesota's lead to one goal.

However, the Gophers added two insurance goals, one in the second and another in the third for the final mark. Clarke added her second point of the night, scoring at 14:40 in the second. Oonincx tallied her second assist in the game. Slominski tallied the last goal by the Gophers, scoring off her own rebound. It was the 17 goal of the season for the senior co-captain. Curtin added an assist, putting her at a team-high 40 points.

In the game, Minnesota had three members with multiple point games. Curtin and Clarke notched a goal and an assist, while Oonincx collected two points setting up the goals for Stephens and Clarke.

The Gophers finish their regular season schedule on Saturday, March 2 vs. St. Cloud State at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. Start time is 8:05 p.m.
