Women's Basketball Fifth Seed in NCAA Tournament

Minnesota women's basketball has earned a fifth seed in the Midwest Region of the 2002 NCAA Tournament. With the fifth seed the Gophers will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face 12th seeded UNLV in the first round of play on Saturday, March 16 in the Carmichael Auditorium. The host institution No. 4 seed North Carolina will face first round action against No. 13 seed Harvard. First round game times have yet to be announced.

Minnesota is amongst the tournament field for just the second time in Golden Gopher women's basketball history. The Gophers only other trip to the "Big Dance" was during the 1993-94 season.

The first-round winners will meet Monday for a spot in the Midwest Region semifinal. Tipoff for that game, which will be televised on ESPN2, is 6:36 p.m.
