Seven Minnesota Athletes Named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars

TSeven student-athletes from the University of Minnesota were named 2002 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Tuesday. The award recognizes excellence in academics, athletics and service to the community. This is the 10th anniversary of the award established by Black Issues in Higher Education.

The Golden Gopher recipients are as follows: Harsh Mankad Tennis First Team Allen Ong Swimming First Team Kadidja Andersson Basketball Third Team Trisha Bratford Volleyball Third Team Dominique Sims Football Third Team Nicole Terlouw Track & Field Fourth Team Shani Marks Track & Field Honorable Mention
To be nominated for the award, students must be of color, compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain at least a 3.2 GPA and be active on their campus or in their communities. They must also have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution.
