Lindsay Whalen Named Women's Basketball Team MVP

ValuabSophomore point guard Lindsay Whalen added more hardware to her ever-growing collection of awards, when she was named the Golden Gophers' Most Valuable Player at the team's awards banquet, Sunday afternoon.

Whalen, a third-team Associated Press All-American and the Big Ten Player of the Year, was a repeat honoree of the MVP award, voted on by her Gopher teammates. Whalen was also honored with the Fast Break Club Award.

Other team award winners were: Leslie Hill (Attitude Award), Lindsay Lieser (Three-Point Shooter Award), Ebba Hemberg (Hustle Award), Kim Prince (Off the Bench Award), Kadidja Andersson (Most Improved Player), Janel McCarville (Best Rebounder Award) and Corrin Von Wald (Best Defender Award).

Seniors Kim Bell and Jenny MacKay were also recognized for their contributions to the program.

WCCO-TV's Don Shelby emceed the event, which included the team being awarded their NCAA Tournament watches and a highlight video of the 2001-02 season.
