Big Ten Announces Winter Academic All-Conference Teams

All-ConferenPark Ridge, Ill. - As the winter term of the 2001-02 school year comes to a close, the Big Ten recognized a total of 384 winter sport student- athletes who have been named to the Academic All-Conference Team. To be eligible, athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.

Penn State had the most athletes honored with 46, followed by Iowa's 41, while Minnesota and Illinois both had 40. The Big Ten Academic All- Conference honorees also achieved excellence "on the field." Minnesota sophomore Lindsay Whalen earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors in women's basketball while carrying a 3.42 GPA in Sports Management.
