Gopher Rowing Completes Second Day of South/Central Region Sprints

Minnesota's Varsity Four finished sixth with a time 7:38.8, 12 seconds behind Michigan's winning boat at 7:26.9. It is the first time the Gophers had a Varsity Four in the Grand Finals at regional action. Minnesota's boat consisted of coxswain Katie Testin, Anna Bartels, Alison Zylstra, Nina Palmer and Patricia Whitney.
Minnesota's first Varsity Eight containing Coxswain Libby Sharrow, Amber Riopel, Jackie Gagner, Jill Peters, Shelley Miller, Erin Streff, Heidi Rose, Melissa Roche and Beth Hornby placed third in the Petite Final. The Golden Gophers finished third behind winning boat Clemson and Iowa for a time of 6:43.6 The Gophers finished ahead of Wisconsin, Kansas State and Tennessee in racing action.
The second Varsity Eight competed in the C Final along with Duke and Kansas State. The Gophers completed the day in third with a time of 7:07.9.
Only six of the top teams make it to the Grand Finals, while the other six fall to the consolation Petite Finals and the remaining to the C Finals, if applies to the number of teams in competition. In three races alone, Minnesota competed against 13 teams in the sprints, 18 schools in all.
