Spotakova Earns Javelin All-American Honors

Barbora Spotakova placed fifth in the javelin at the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Baton Rouge, La. to put the Gophers into 16th place with four points after two days of competition.

Spotakova threw 171-feet, 5-inches to earn her first career All- American honor. Throwing all six attempts, the newcomer from the Czech Republic tossed her final distance in the third throw. She becomes Minnesota's fifth javelin All-American.

Tahesia Harrigan qualified for the 100-meter dash finals with a time 11.49 seconds. The first-year outdoor athlete goes into the finals tied for eighth place after the preliminary heats. Harrigan placed 18th in the 200-meter dash on May 29.

The NCAA Championships, hosted by Lousiana State University continue through Saturday, June 1.
