Slugger's Junior second baseman Luke Appert was named to Louisville Slugger's third team All-America list, posted by Collegiate Baseball. One of three Big Ten Players of the Year, Appert helped lead the Golden Gophers to their 19th regular-season conference championship in school history, and second in three years. Appert also earned honorable mention as a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America in 2000, when he led the Maroon and Gold in hitting, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. This year, he finished third in the Big Ten in conference hitting and ranked in the top 10 in six other categories, including leading the league in slugging percentage (.770) and total bases (77) and finishing second in home runs (9). Appert was named the team's most valuable player and earned the Paul Molitor Batting Champion Award as the team's leader in batting average. Just three members of the Big Ten Conference were named to the three teams.
