MThe Golden Gopher baseball team landed another pair of strong recruits, receiving National Letters of Intent from two left-handed pitchers. Brian Bull (Omaha, Neb.) and Andy Peters (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) both agreed to attend Minnesota beginning this fall.

"We targeted left-handed pitching with this recruiting class, " Head Coach John Anderson said, "and I think we accomplished that. These are two good left-handed pitchers that we feel can have an immediate impact on our program. They are excited to come here for all the right reasons, and we are excited that they will be joining us."

"Andy is a kid that will add a lot of depth to our staff as a left-handed pitcher," Anderson continued. "He has a live fastball and throws a lot of strikes. He also mixes in a sharp breaking ball and has a deceptive delivery. He will help upgrade our pitching from the left side, which is something we needed to do for next year."

"Brian is a great competitor with excellent control and command of three pitches," Anderson said. "He played for a state championship program at Creighton Prep, so he understands what it takes to win. We believe he can come in to our program with that winning attitude and be a contributor as a freshman."

Bios of each recruit follow:

Brian Bull (Omaha, Neb., Creighton Preparatory School) - LHP Bull is a two-time all-state selection and a two-time MVP of the Spring State Championship. His only prep loss came in the American Legion World Series. He is 13-0 at Creighton Prep, and 25-1 overall. He has great control, walking just 12 batters this season, and has limited opponents to a .174 batting average. Bull is an offensive threat as well. The second-best hitter on the team with a .434 average, he leads his roster with seven home runs and five triples. He was also recruited by Creighton University and Nebraska.

Andy Peters (Vadnais Heights, Minn., Mounds View HS) - LHP Peters is a four-year letterwinner with a good fastball and a deceptive delivery. An all-conference award winner and all-state honorable mention in 2001, he finished legion play last summer with a 10-1 record and a 1.74 earned run average for Tri-City Red. He has 294 career strikeouts in 166 innings of work, and was selected to play in the Lions All-Star Game later this month.
