Four Minnesota Rowers Earn National Scholar Athlete Award

All four Golden Gophers participated in every Varsity Eight event in the fall and spring seasons this year. As members of the first Varsity Eight, the Gophers defeated nationally ranked Iowa and Wisconsin for the first time at Big Ten Racing in Iowa City, Iowa. For their performance, the Gophers were named the Big Ten Boat of the Week, the first weekly award received by the rowing team since becoming a varsity sport.
The criteria included: meeting eligibility rules defined by the university, participating in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, participating in at least 75 percent of the season's races in a varsity boat, the student-athlete's coach must be in good academic standing with the CRCA, and the student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
