Head men's basketball coach Dan Monson announced today the hiring of John Blair Bickerstaff as Director of Basketball Operations. The former Golden Gopher captain replaces Vic Couch, who was elevated to an assistant coaching position last month.
"We're very fortunate to hire a former Golden Gopher and bring him back to our basketball family," said Monson. "J.B. is one of us and his personality, leadership and basketball knowledge will be a great addition to our program."
Bickerstaff was a two-year letterwinner for Minnesota from 1999-2001. He played in 43 career games for the Maroon and Gold in two seasons before suffering season-ending injuries in each season. Bickerstaff averaged 9.4 points and 5.8 rebounds in Gold Country.
Since graduating with a degree in speech communications, Bickerstaff tried out for the National Basketball Development League and has worked out with players, helping them prepare for the NBA Draft.
