Sandersfeld Hired as Assistant Director of Media Relations

responsibilThe University of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics Department announced today the hiring of Shane Sandersfeld as assistant director of media relations. Sandersfeld will handle the media responsibilities for the football program as well as the men's and women's gymnastics programs.

"We're very excited to welcome Shane to the University of Minnesota intercollegiate athletics," said Assistant Athletics Director Marc Ryan. "His experience in both professional and college athletics, and his knowledge of the local media market, will be great assets to our program."

Sandersfeld, 27, worked for the previous two years as a public relations assistant for the Minnesota Vikings. In addition, he served as a stadium team assistant working on the University of Minnesota/ Minnesota Vikings football stadium pre-design project team. Prior to his term with the Vikings, Sandersfeld worked for two years at Minnesota State Mankato as a Sports Information Graduate Assistant. From 1996-1998, he was the Sports Information Director at the University of Sioux Falls. Sandersfeld graduated from the University of Sioux Falls in 1996 with a degree in mass communications.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to join the U of M," said Sandersfeld. "I feel fortunate to have been selected for the position and look forward to working with the staff."

Sandersfeld will start July 15.
