Minnesota Soccer Shuts Out Montana, 1-0

The University of Minnesota women's soccer team blanked Montana today, 1-0, in the second match of the Diadora Cup in Missoula, Mont. The Golden Gophers (1-1) scored their only goal at the 51:46 mark on a header by junior midfielder Amanda McMahon with the assist going to junior forward Rachael Roth. It was McMahon's first goal as a Golden Gopher. The native of Stillwater, Minn., transferred to Minnesota from Marshall University prior to this season. Roth led Minnesota with seven shots while McMahon fired six shots at Griz goalkeeper Sarah Braseth.
Freshman goalkeeper Karli Kopeitz gained her first win for the Maroon and Gold in front of a crowd of 606. Kopeitz, a native of Champlin, Minn., made four saves to preserve the shutout.
The Golden Gophers outshot Montana 21-5 in the physical contest. Three yellow cards were given in the match with one each going to Tierney Palmer-Klein and Meghan Jones.
The Maroon and Gold plays host to Southwest Missouri State on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 3:30 p.m. at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Field.
