Gopher Women's Gymnastics Takes Second At Florida Meet

As a team, the Gophers finished second behind the Gators on the balance beam (48.400) and on the floor (48.275) to help secure their second-place finish. It was their second-highest team score this season for Minnesota, trailing only the 195.525 they posted in their opener against Arizona. The Gophers improved to 2-3 on the season.
Minnesota received contributions from several gymnasts. Carolyn Yernberg (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) had the highest individual finish of any of the Gopher gymnasts by placing third in floor exercise with a 9.825. Annie Laatsch (Lakeville, Minn./Eastview), Alicia Opsahl (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) and Mary Skokut (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) tied for fifth on the balance beam with a 9.800. Leigh Dixon (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Ripon) and Laura Johnson (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva ) weren't to be outdone on the vault as they tied for fifth with a 9.775. Laatsch finished sixth in the all-around with a score of 38.225
The Minnesota women gymnasts will compete at the Sports Pavilion next Saturday, Feb. 1 against No. 5 Utah at 7 p.m., as the Gophers "Pack the Pav" for their meet against the Utes.
